Cheesy Town

Can you smell that? ~Sniff~ ~Sniff~ A whiff of cheese! Yet the residents of Cheesy Town do not believe in cheese. Many in town scoff and say things like “Cheese is a Fairy Tale, right?” What can our mousey friend do to prove to his neighbors that cheese not only exists– but cheese could also be the key to saving his struggling hometown?

Some of that “well meaning” advice we were talking about.

Cheesy Town is an all-ages adventure game with minimalist puzzle designs that hope to gently guide you through this lovely game. If you are a parent this game is a perfect fit for your own little one to try out on the family Gameboy. The player must unravel the objectives through well-crafted clues sprinkled throughout the town. Some of the game’s clues will come from well-meaning townsfolk and friends. Yet others will be given from clever book titles found in homes. While still more will need to be intuited by the player from the cute and clever visual cues of the thoughtful pixel art. However, regardless of the origin of the clue, the content leads to only one thing: cheese.

Now you might have remembered seeing a door with the same motif somewhere…

The game was created by Hidebu Games. Though he has made more games through other engines we look forward to seeing more GB Studio games from him in the future. If you are a sneaky mouse, you might even find a way to introduce yourself to Hidebu in this game.

If you are new to game development and want to learn something from Cheesy Town, the game stands out in a few ways. One way is in purposeful, yet endearing dialogue. At times a game can feel bogged down with unnecessary information in an attempt to be more immersive. Cheesy Town has just the right amount of “need to know” information to let you off on your own. Even still, I would say the key standout area this game could teach is how solid event planning in a game can naturally lead to character attachment and world building without a need for a lore dump. I won’t spoil too much (cheese pun intended) but… by the end of this game I was ready to move to Cheesy Town! Just like our furry friend I also believe in cheese and find it delicious! Although I am unfortunately allergic to dairy.

To download the ROM and begin believing in cheese yourself, head over to the game’s itch page. We are not responsible for any cheese cravings you may encounter after playing this game.
