One of our favourite devs, Polyducks, has two awesome projects out that we want to make gets the attention they deserve. If you haven’t seen his work before, you can read our Interview with Polyduck’s or check out their games on their Itch page.
Excelsior
Based on a work of Interactive Fiction by Arthur DiBianca, Excelsior is a top down puzzle adventure that just oozes with charm and style. We’ve played through the demo and the level of polish on display is just awe inspiring. From the brilliant opening path that cleverly reveals the game credits, to the puzzles themselves, this game is sure to please those who strive for that ‘a-ha’ moment when solving. You can check out the demo here and be sure to back the Kickstarter if you want to see the game come to fruition.
GBJAM 12
Initially hosted by Restroshark, Polyducks has been directing GBJAM since 2019. While there are Jams out there that require you to use GB Studio, or even just to make a Game Boy ROM, GBJAM differs in that you can use any engine to create your game, so long as it sticks to the presentation of a Game Boy game (limited color palette, resolution and controls). Of course we think the easiest way to make a GB “like” game is to use GB Studio itself, but if you’ve got an idea and are comfortable with another game development engine, check out the Jam and join the close to 1,400 participants ready to start this week!
