Getting our GB Studio games running on the Nintendo DSi

At this point, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that I enjoy getting our games working on devices that they aren’t really supposed to be running on. Recently I picked up a DSi, and the first thing I did was get our games running on it. This will require a modified DSi; modding the console is beyond the scope of this article but you can follow the instructions here.

Twilight Menu ++

Twilight Menu ++ is the new replacement launcher typically installed when you mod a DSi. What is great about Twilight Menu ++ is that it contains everything you need to run various roms out of the box, which includes the Gameboy. You simply need to copy the GB Studio roms to the SD card of the DSi, then launch them in the console.

This had to be the easiest experience I had at running any emulated Gameboy game ever and highly recommend breaking out your old DSi and doing so if you happen to have one.

Bonus

Twilight Menu ++ also has the capability of running from Nintendo DS flash carts and Nintendo 3DS consoles by running the .nds file on a NDS flash cart or installing the .cia file on a 3DS via FBI, and can be run in widescreen on the 3ds using patches made with TW Patcher available from universal updater.
